long time coming, short time running

by memory mirror + dj slushshine

/
1.
this was the first DJ Slushshine song that I made. It's what kicked off the alias. Though, the song was made first then the alias. I always liked how this one came out.
2.
I actually made this yesterday (July 14th) with no memory of making it. the immediate responses were good about it but I have no other songs in my collection at the moment that really fit with this so, here it goes.
3.
this song was the reason I quit the dj slushshine alias. I thought this would've fit a little too well on NoTiR. the title fully included the words expansion pack and several other songs and edits were picked up to release my own variation to the ever expanding DJ Rozwell universe but I decided against that as that would be unusual of my previous habits to do so.
4.
I cannot recall making this track, but I remember making that ending and thinking it was cool. now its awkward.
5.
this track is based on a cymatics sample. thanks cymatics! this track also notes the second song I ever made in FL Studio 20. to me, this song is very dry. like a tough steak without the fat.
6.
This is the first song I ever made in FL Studio 20 trying to figure things out and such. its got texture and detail and things like that but it's home never found a foundation.
7.
this track is from 2021. I'm not fond of many tracks from that era but this one always stuck out to me. simple & clean.

9.
I cannot recall the sample but it was something out of an old king arthur-like movie. I thought this song, like most of this album, was awkward. it was a DJ Slushshine song but not as good as its first result. this one really takes the DJ Rozwell influence hard.
10.
funnily enough, i made this before I heard DJ Rozwell. like early 2021, if not late 2020. the file date says 09/15/2021 but I know for a fact the draft was made in 2020. I also know the patch for the dark synth was a jupiter arp patch I made.
11.
this song was meant to be released a few albums ago. I never released it because I thought it was too awkward. but now this awkward album lets me drop this. I made it on a livestream sometime last year during those facebook/twitch livestream sessions. It was cool to see live feedback on stuff but I still thought it was an incredibly awkward pick. too slow for dnb, too fast for house.

about

this album is a weird one.

dj slushshine was a new alias I was working on. the most I got out of it was 6 tracks before I decided it sounded too much like a dj rozwell knock off and then learning that, it sounded too much like a early 2000s beat maker. so I just gave up on fleshing out the alias identity any further along with expanding its sound. this is likely the only release of dj slushshine. any chance of it being used again will likely be in a dj context, where it belongs.

so why pair it with memory mirror?

memory mirror is an evolution of a previous alias, witches. witches has always been an endearing everything-at-once alias. no two songs would be sounding the same on the same album or in the same two tracks. I viewed them more as playlists than albums so thats how I treated them. I also have struggled to lately not only expand the sound of memory mirror but to produce content that im vaguely satisfied with. I'll have moments but nothing that'll make me jump and go "this is good". nothing to write home about. both of these alias suffered a similar fate. I think memory mirror's time is soon to come to an end as well. dont worry, however. I have a long list of alias names to pick and choose from.

and now?

and now, this becomes my excuse to release a series of odds & ends that I thought were decent/awkward but didnt exactly find a match with other things I have.

so see this album as more of an awkward playlist than an album. I do ask that you shuffle it to get a different result and listen every time. play it in your car, play it off your phone, play it in a bar.
